Cardinals Record Season-Best Times at Horicon River Run

The Mayville cross country team continued its strong season Thursday, Sept. 24, competing against a field of 21 schools at the Horicon River Run at River Bend Park.

The Cardinal girls finished seventh in the team standings with 204 points, while the Mayville boys placed 11th with 314 points.

Head coach Bob Berry was pleased with the Cardinals' performance, as six of Mayville's seven varsity girls recorded season-best times in a crowded meet of 123 runners. Three Mayville boys also turned in their fastest times of the season competing with 110 runners total.

The Cardinals also had a strong showing in the junior high competition. Eighth-grader Ian Cloninger placed fourth out of 122 runners, while fellow eighth-grader Josiah Brown finished 15th. Both runners recorded personal-best times.

Mayville now turns its attention to the Nightfall Classic on Friday, Oct. 2, at Tescombia Golf Course in Green Lake. The evening meet will feature more than 60 schools, with the first race scheduled to begin at 7:10 p.m.
