It has been an exceptional summer in Theresa. The Theresa Historical Society (THS) welcomed record attendance at its museum open houses, Yellowstone Trail Day and countywide Rock River Settlement Stories programs.
The season’s highlight was Augtoberfest, held Aug. 15–16. An estimated 1,500 people gathered to celebrate local history, America’s 250th anniversary and Theresa’s 180th birthday. Live music and a shared appreciation for the area’s heritage made the weekend unforgettable. The festival was both a joyful community homecoming and a major fundraising success, far exceeding expectations for upcoming preservation and facility-maintenance projects.
Membership Meeting Update
At the Sept. 15 general membership meeting, members discussed progress on the Village Hall restoration, accepted recent donations, reviewed the memorial brick program and recapped the summer’s events. Several memorial brick orders have been received, and promotion of the program will increase soon. The discussion also raised a key question for THS: Where do we go from here?
Planning for the Future
Organizers intend to make Augtoberfest a recurring tradition, but next year presents a significant logistical challenge. Milwaukee Street (WI Hwy 175) is scheduled for a complete overhaul, including electrical, sewer, water and repaving work. As a result, access to this year’s festival site on Henni Street may be severely restricted or unavailable.
Visitors valued this year’s venue and its historic atmosphere. As THS evaluates alternative locations, it is seeking a site that preserves the same old-fashioned community spirit—and welcomes input from local residents.
We Want to Hear From You
Help THS navigate this detour and shape the future of this community tradition. Email location suggestions, comments, or feedback to famosurobbo@gmail.com, and use “Bridge” in the subject line so messages can be organized easily. Your input will help guide the event’s future.
Next Membership Meeting
The next regular membership meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. at the Theresa Public Library. Everyone is welcome.
