On Friday, Oct. 2, the Mayville school’s PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) raised over $17,000 for the school and family activities from their MES Bubble Run. They have done similar fundraisers in the past, such as a fun run and color run, but this was the first time they did the Bubble Run, which was a huge success.
Money from this fundraiser was raised in two separate ways.
In the beginning of the school year, teachers handed out pledge sheets to 4K through sixth grade families at their open house. Families were asked to get pledge amounts from friends and family to support the school.
To help encourage this, the PTO had prizes based on the total amounts individuals earned:
Pledges of $20 received a Cardinal bracelet
Pledges of $50 received a prize bag of random trinkets
Pledges of $100 received a one-day school pass of their choice: teacher chair, no homework or spot swap
Pledges of $150 received a Cardinal water bottle/tumbler and a #1 foam hand
Pledges of $200 received a prize package containing gift cards to McDonalds, Sweet Peas and a Tag Center Swim Pass
They even had special prizes for top fundraisers – top four kids get to ride to school in a police car or fire truck; the highest fundraisers gets to be Jr. Principal for the day; and the top class for each grade level gets an ice cream sundae bar.
The second way money was earned was during the Bubble Run itself on Oct. 2 at both the Mayville Elementary School (MES) and Parkview Early Learning Center. Both locations had several stations, each about one-tenth of a mile apart, where kids and families could play in the bubbles. Individuals would receive a bracelet at each station to show how many stations they visited, and they were also able to donate at each individual station. 9/10 of the stations at MES were simple bubble machines and bubble blowers, but one station was MKE Foam, making giant foam bubble walls children could run through and play with.
The PTO also has two large goals for the overall amount of money raised from both the pledges and Bubble Run. If they raised a total amount of $13,000 or more, the whole 4K through sixth grades earn a movie and pizza party. If they raise $15,000 or more, they also get to silly string the MES principal, Mrs. LeBouton, and the 4K teachers. Both of these goals were met!
“17,713 is what we raised so far with the ubble Run,” said 4K teacher and PTO President, Ellen Hilbert on Saturday, Oct 10. “Pledges were due on Friday (Oct. 9) but a few more may trickle in next week.” She then annonuced on Monday, Oct. 12, that that final total was $18,288.
The money raised from this fundraiser will be split between supporting PTO Family Nights, getting new sound equipment for the MES auditorium and purchasing indoor recess materials.
“We are so thankful to all the amazing Mayville families for supporting the Mayville PTO Bubble Run! Their generosity will help make a difference throughout our schools,” said Hilber.
Next Fundraiser
The next fundraiser the Mayville PTO will be holding is “McTeacher’s Night” on Oct. 29 from 4-7 p.m. at the Mayville Mcdonalds. PTO members and district teachers will be working the counters during that time, and 20% of all proceeds will be put towards PTO Teacher Grants, allowing teachers to get resources and learning experiences for their classrooms that typical budgets don’t allow for. Past grants have helped pay for STEM materials, materials to build fine motor skills, sensory processing materials, books to expand classroom libraries, a climbing wall for MES and much more.
