The Mayville Limestone School Museum is pleased to announce that local Mayville history buff Tom Schuessler will be the featured speaker for this year’s annual speaker series. Tom’s presentation focuses on how Mayville was able to survive and thrive after the end of the Iron Ore Industry. On January 17,1928, Mayville Iron Works blew out its twin blast furnaces for the last time. Tom’s presentation will identify the resiliency and reinvention that saved the city. Among Tom’s topics are Ferdinand Schlesinger, the “Iron Napolean”, Surviving the Great Depression, The Rise of the Mayville Shoe Factory, The Iron Works Baseball Field Grandstand and Bleachers, How the city reclaimed the industrial grounds for Purity Cheese, Mayville Die and Tool, Rilling-Endlich and Bachhuber and Feucht’s Mayville Construction. The presentation will be on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. in the Grand Auditorium. The museum will be open from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. for guests to visit the other exhibits in the museum before and after the program.
