Allan was born on June 13, 1943, to Helmuth and Paula (Koepsell) Keup in Reed City, MI. He was baptized on July 4, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Reed City. Allan was confirmed in his Christian faith on April 14, 1957, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon. After attending Concordia High School in Milwaukee for three years, Allan transferred to Horicon High School for one year before graduating in 1961. He then matriculated at Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966. Allan’s post-graduate work at Concordia College included master’s degrees in education (1972) and church music (1983). Allan married the former Janet Erickson on June 15, 1968, in Oconto Falls. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Jennifer, Erika, and Paul. Raised and educated within The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, Allan pursued a calling to serve LCMS parishes. He held positions as an elementary school teacher, organist, and choir director at St. Paul Lutheran in Manawa (1966-1972); St. John’s Lutheran in Grand Haven, MI (1972-1980); and Trinity Lutheran in Springfield, IL. (1980-1987). He taught hundreds of students throughout his tenure, including all three of his children. Additionally, Allan worked as an organist and handbell choir director at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Springfield, IL, from 1987 to 2011. Following his years as an educator, Allan was employed as a District Representative for Lutheran Brotherhood from 1987 to 1997. He specialized in insurance programs benefiting Lutheran churches and schools. Allan later worked as an independent financial services representative for more than 10 years. Allan was well known for his hobby of baking whole wheat bread on weekends, most of which he gave away to friends and parishioners. Over the years, his bread won several awards at the Illinois State Fair. From his early years, Allan was an avid sports enthusiast. The steady southpaw pitched for his high school and college baseball teams and later for amateur teams in Theresa and Big Falls. In addition, Allan enjoyed slow-pitch softball, bowling, and ping-pong. A loyal Green Bay Packers fan and shareholder, Allan also followed the Milwaukee Braves, Milwaukee Brewers, and Wisconsin Badgers. Allan will be greatly missed by his wife, Jan, of Mequon; three children; and three grandchildren. Daughter, Jennifer (Erik) Ankerberg and grandsons, Peter and David, live in Wheaton, IL; daughter, Erika Keup (Jason Jarzembowski) and grandson, Samuel, live in Germantown; and son Paul Allan Keup resides in St. Louis. Allan is also survived by sister-in-law, Suzanne (the late Gordon) Keup of Horicon, and his younger brother, Ronald (Karen) Keup of Saginaw, MI. Allan is further survived by several nieces and nephews, Jacqueline Schulz, Sheryl (Mike) Manion, Eric Keup, Joel (Natalie) Keup, Rachel (Jason) Ash, Aaron (Cara) Keup, and Nathan (Megan) Keup. Allan was preceded in death by his father, Helmuth (1987); his mother, Paula (1995); his older brother, Gordon (2013); and his brother-in-law, Rolf Erickson (1992). Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 1, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church (505 N. Palmatory; Horicon) from 9:30 to 11 a.m. with funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery of Lessor (Welhaven Rd.; Bonduel). Frey, 77, of Mayville passed away on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021 at his home. Marvin was born the son of Elmer and Minnie (VanBuren) Frey on August 29, 1943, in Beaver Dam. He was a 1961 graduate of Waupun High School. Marvin was married to Elda Groth on September 19, 1964, at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. He owned and operated Marv’s Small Engines in Mayville and retired from the City of Mayville. After retirement, he enjoyed working for Town and Country Construction. Marvin was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Mayville. He enjoyed spending time outdoors especially hunting, fishing, and gardening. He enjoyed watching races at Beaver Dam Raceway. He was a member of the Mayville Fireside Campers. Marvin especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Marvin is survived by his wife, Elda, of Mayville; his children, Michael Frey of Buxton, ND, Susan (Michael) Feller of Iron Ridge, and Darlene (Kevin) Kurtz of Horicon; his grandchildren, Ally Kurtz (Travis Davidson) and Mitchell Kurtz; other relatives and friends. Doyle A. Bartsch, 65, of Mayville passed on January 17, 2021, at Aurora Medical Center Summit in Oconomowoc. Doyle was born the son of Otto and Alice (Margelofsky) Bartsch on June 8, 1955. Doyle was a 1973 graduate of Mayville High School. He served his country honorably in the US Navy from 1973 until 1975. Doyle was united in marriage to Nancy Kollmansberger on August 2, 1975 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mayville. He had worked at Metalcraft of Mayville at the West Bend location until his passing. In his spare time, Doyle loved the outdoors especially camping, fly-fishing, tying flies, kayaking, making wood, and brewing beer. Doyle enjoyed canning tomatoes and making salsa in the fall with his children. In the spring he would take his sons and grandchildren to look for morel mushrooms and, in the summer, they would plan a fly-fishing trip to the Brule River. Family was important to Doyle and he cherished the time spent with them, especially his grandchildren. Doyle was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Knowles and served his church family in many capacities. He also served his community as a Mayville EMT for 8 years and also as a member of the Mayville Fire Department for 10 years. He was always there to lend a hand. Doyle is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy of Mayville; his children, Jeremiah (Monique) Bartsch of Iron Ridge, Benjamin Bartsch of Beaver Dam, and Joshua (Melissa) Bartsch of Burnett; his grandchildren, Kaden Bartsch, Kiah Bartsch, Kallan Bartsch, Kendyl Bartsch, Kasyddie Stewart, Chance (Breanna Brock) Hartwig, Jordan Hartwig, Aydan Hartwig, Olivia Bartsch, and Emily Bartsch; great-grandsons, Jayden and Bryar; his siblings, Rod (Dolores) Bartsch of Monterey, CA, twin brother, Daryl (Dawn) Bartsch of Oakfield, and Terry (Ellen) Bartsch of Port Richey, FL; his aunt, Patty Bertel and his uncle and aunt, Chester (June) Margelofsky; further survived by other relatives and many friends. Bauer, 78, of Lomira, affectionately known as “Mitzi” by family and friends, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, at her residence. She was born on November 21, 1942, in New Holstein, the daughter of William and Rose (Koehler) Hanke. She graduated from Lomira High School in 1961. On September 28, 1963, Darlene married Dennis Bauer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lomira. He preceded her in death on September 9, 2011. Darlene was a loving and devoted wife caring for him throughout his courageous battle with Leukemia. Darlene worked at Kondex Corporation, Cole Oil and Propane, and for the last twenty years for her son Shane at Bauer Physical Therapy in Fond du Lac. She loved her work because of the many friendships she developed over the years and it allowed her to be with and help people every day. She enjoyed reading and loved sewing. Darlene was everyone’s seamstress. Darlene enjoyed family gatherings, rarely missing an opportunity to spend time with loved ones. Darlene was a regular attendee at her grandchildren’s sporting events and enjoyed cheering on her grandchildren, as well as, getting to know her grandchildren’s teammates and families. She was a selfless caring woman who was always there for others in time of need. Everyone that knew Darlene described her as wonderful, sweet, loving and kind. Truly an angel among us. Her radiant smile and bright personality will be missed by all that knew her. Donnalee Grady, 81, of Hubbard passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021 at her home. Donnalee was born the daughter of William and Laura (Timms) Monk on April 27, 1939. She was a graduate of Riverdale High School. She had worked as bookkeeper for her husband and helped in managing their hotels. until her retirement. She was united in marriage to Richard W. Grady on March 29, 1964, in Chicago. In her spare time, Donnalee enjoyed sewing, painting, puzzles, and reading. She also loved gardening, ceramics, and playing cards, especially with her friends in Florida. Kaiser, 86, of Horicon, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. Donald was born on October 5, 1934, in Appleton, to Walter and Helen (Dessort) Kaiser. He grew up in Pardeeville and later moved to Mayville with his family. He met Barbara Ulbricht from Horicon and they were united in marriage on June 11, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church in Horicon. Don worked as a heavy equipment operator throughout his life and he was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local #139. He loved to hunt, especially in Colorado where he shot an elk, and in Clark County where he deer hunted. Don loved to snowmobile and was one of the founding members of the Horicon Marsh Snowmobile Club. He progressed to the county level where he served as president and was awarded the first Snowmobiler of the Year award. He went on to serve at the state level where he was a director for six years. Don and Barb traveled in their motor home for several years. They purchased a winter home in Fort Myers, FL, and were snowbirds for 21 years. Together they went on a month-long trip to Germany and also traveled to Austria, Switzerland and France. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Barbara Kaiser; their three children, Steven Kaiser, Faye (Ken) Dahlke and Joel (Grace) Kaiser; eight grandchildren, Kelly Werner, Amy Kaiser, Michelle Kaiser, Bobbie Schmitt, Dan Checolinski, Nick Checolinski, Jesse Kaiser, and Kevin Kaiser; eight great-grandchildren; his brother and sister, Wayne Kaiser and Sharon Kanas, both of Mayville; other relatives and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kurt Kaiser; his sisters, Carol Rhode who also died on January 18, 2021, and Charlotte Ruenzel; two daughters-in-law, Kristine Kaiser and Karen Kaiser. Erna Agnes Bahr, 93, of Mayville, formerly of Cecil, passed away on Friday, Jan. 15, 2021. Erna was born on February 23, 1927, to the late Alex and Olga (Dobberphul) Benter in Dodge County. On December 3, 1977, Erna was united in marriage to David Robert Bahr in the Town of Washington. David preceded her in death on May 11, 2017. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in the Town of Washington. Erna will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Erna is survived by her children, David (Debbie) Miller, Steven (Michelle) Bahr, and Karen Bahr; a daughter-in-law, Carol Miller; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Louis (Hazel) Benter. She is further survived by numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, David; one son, Robert; and her parents, Alex and Olga Benter. Allen A. Christian, 73, of rural Mayville, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, in the palliative care center at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison following a short period of illness with cancer. Allen was born the son of Arnold and Marilyn (Wendegatz) Christian on December 5, 1947. On June 13, 1970, he married Gloria (Krahn), at Emmanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, in the Township of Herman. Allen was a lifetime member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in the Township of Theresa, faithfully serving on many committees, chairs, as past elder and currently served on the school board and sang bass in the choir. He was a 1965 graduate of Mayville High School. He had worked over 30 years at Broan Mfg., Hartford, in the IT department. Allen served his country in the Army (1968-1969 Vietnam) and was a member of the American Legion Post 270, Theresa. He was an active member of the Lions Club of Theresa and currently served as secretary. Allen enjoyed many years of playing the bass in polka bands in the local area, the Milwaukee area and beyond, and all the lasting friendships that were created. He also enjoyed motorcycling, being outdoors in his woods and on his land. Allen is survived by his wife, Gloria; his daughter, Melissa (Jesse) Decker of Dodgeville and his son, Dustin (Lizzy Schneidler) Christian of Milwaukee; grandchildren, Mason and Megan Decker; mother, Marilyn Christian of Hartford; sisters, Nancy (Bill) Connell of Oconomowoc, Norene (Al) Gonring of Lomira, Marjean (Rick) Lerch of Theresa, Marsha (Dan) Roskopf of Mayville, and Annette (Bob) Foshey of Hartland; sister-in-law, Joyce Moldenhauer of Hartford and brother-in-law, Jerry (Pam) Krahn of Nashville, TN. He is further survived by nieces, nephew, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Arnold; his brother, Loren; parents-in-law, ‘Sparky’ and LaVerne Krahn; and brother-in-law, Richard Moldenhauer.
