Posted

February, 20, 2025 - Mayville, WI - The Mayville boys basketball team put up a strong fight Tuesday night but came up short against Winnebago Lutheran(WLA), falling 53-41. WLA jumped out to a 34-20 halftime lead, and while the Cardinals outscored the Vikings in the second half, they couldn't overcome the early deficit.

Leading the way for Mayville were Joren Schlender and Tate Drinkwine with eight points each, followed by Talan Meyer with seven and Austin Thoreson with six.

VS Kewaskum

With a fired-up home crowd behind them, the Mayville boys basketball team brought energy and intensity to Thursday night’s matchup against Kewaskum. The Cardinals kept the game competitive early, but Kewaskum managed to build a 11-point lead heading into halftime.

Mayville battled hard in the second half, stepping up defensively to hold Kewaskum to just 34 points while igniting their offense for 38. Despite their efforts to close the gap, the Cardinals fell just short in a hard-fought 66-71 loss to the Indians.

Despite the outcome, the Cardinals showed grit and determination, proving they can compete with tough opponents. They’ll look to bounce back in their next game as they continue to push through the season.

VS Campbellsport

The Mayville boys basketball team on the road, powered past Campbellsport 52-34 behind dominant scoring runs and a balanced offensive effort.

Leading 13-10 early on, the Cardinals ignited a 10-0 surge, fueled by three-pointers from Brent Seiler and Emerson Mittlestadt, to take control. Up 23-12, Joren Schlender scored six straight points before halftime, extending Mayville’s advantage to 31-12 at the break.

The Cardinals kept their foot on the gas in the second half, stretching the lead to 36-14 on a well-executed play where Schlender found Austin Thoreson for a basket. After a 9-0 Campbellsport run, Mayville responded emphatically with 14 straight points—six from Seiler and eight from Schlender—to put the game out of reach.
