Mansueto Sparks Beavers’ Surge in Pair of Co-op Wins

Posted

The Beaver Dam Golden Beavers girls’ hockey co-op earned a 4–2 win over the Badger Lightning on Thursday, Jan. 22, at Pierce Park in Baraboo.

Mayville junior Lilian Mansueto led the way with two goals and an assist, scoring once in the second period and adding an empty-net goal late to seal the victory. Olivia Bates and Emersen Damon also found the net as Beaver Dam carried a 2–1 lead into the third.

In goal, Mayville’s Arianna Wallace stopped 12 of 14 shots to earn the win, while the Golden Beavers outshot Badger Lightning 25–16. Horicon sophomore Lena Reuckert was part of a defensive effort that limited Badger Lightning to just two goals, one coming on the power play.

Vs Viroqua Blackhawks

The Beaver Dam Golden Beavers girls’ hockey co-op continued its strong stretch with a dominant 8–1 road win over Viroqua on Saturday at Viroqua Community Arena, following an earlier victory in the week.

Beaver Dam jumped out early with three first-period goals and never looked back, outshooting the Blackhawks 53–7 in a lopsided performance. Mayville senior Lilian Mansueto added to the offensive outburst with two goals, including a power-play tally late in the second period that pushed the lead to 4–1.

The Golden Beavers poured in four more goals in the third period to put the game away, with Brenna Rhodes scoring three times and Emersen Damon finishing with four points. Horicon’s Lena Rueckert was part of a defensive effort that limited Viroqua to just seven shots on goal.

In net, Mayville’s Arianna Wallace was credited as part of the goaltending unit, while Dot Baker stopped six of seven shots to secure the win. Beaver Dam capitalized on Viroqua’s penalty trouble, converting two of seven power plays, while maintaining pressure at even strength throughout the night.

The co-op’s balanced scoring and depth across area programs continued to pay dividends as the Golden Beavers built momentum heading into the next stretch of conference play.

With the win, the Golden Beavers move to (11-4-1) in the season.

Looking to next week, the Golden Beavers host the Icebergs on Tuesday, Jan. 27 and the Cap City Cougars on Thursday, Jan. 29. The puck hits the ice at the Beaver Dam Family Center Ice Arena, Main Rink, 7 p.m.
