Lester ‘Boot­sie’ F. Schu­mann, 86, of Mayville passed away on Thurs­day, Feb. 8, 2024 at Prairie Ridge As­sisted Liv­ing in Mayville.   Lester was born the son of Robert H. and Ir­m­gard (Bruesso) Schu­mann on Feb­ru­ary 18, 1937.   He had worked at TAB Prod­ucts until his re­tire­ment.   Lester loved play­ing cards with his friends who came from all over to play. He was a skilled sheepshead and skat player. Lester also loved base­ball and was a huge Yan­kees fan. His yard was al­ways man­i­cured per­fectly, and he en­joyed gar­den­ing. Lester was also an avid col­lec­tor of all sorts of things. He will be greatly missed.   Lester is sur­vived by his sis­ter-in-law Marie Schu­mann of New York; fur­ther sur­vived by nieces, nephews, other rel­a­tives, and many friends.   He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, and broth­ers Robert Jr. and Carl.   A grave­side ser­vice took place on Wednes­day, Feb. 14, at 3 p.m. at Grace­land Ceme­tery in Mayville.   Spe­cial thanks to the staff of Prairie Ridge As­sisted Liv­ing in Mayville and Pre­cep­tor Hos­pice for the care and sup­port shown to Boot­sie and his fam­ily.    Joan Elaine Herbst, 76, passed away on Fri­day, Feb. 2, 2024, at her home in Camp­bell­sport, with her lov­ing fam­ily by her side.   Joan was born on July 6, 1947, to Charles and Ar­lyle (Kohl) Hep­pert in Mil­wau­kee.   She was united in mar­riage to Robert L. Herbst Jr. on Jan­u­ary 1, 1977, in Las Vegas, NV.   Joan was a mem­ber of Camp­bell­sport Al­liance Church.    Joan worked as a piece worker for Briggs and Strat­ton for 40 years.   She was a mem­ber of the Theresa Amer­i­can Le­gion Aux­il­iary and passed her time paint­ing, doing di­a­mond art, and gar­den­ing.    Joan is sur­vived by her hus­band, Robert; chil­dren, Jeff (Cindy) Metz of West Bend and Jim Metz of Hart­ford; two grand­chil­dren, Cia­rah and Avah Metz; two great-grand­chil­dren, TJ and Aiden; and sis­ter, Nancy Sherr of Menomonee Falls. She is fur­ther sur­vived by other rel­a­tives and friends.    Joan was pre­ceded in death by her par­ents and her sis­ter, Susan Ircke.    A Cel­e­bra­tion of Joan’s life took place on Sun­day, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m. at Camp­bell­sport Al­liance Church in Camp­bell­sport with Rev.    Donald Alvin Zastrow, 83, was called to his eternal home in heaven on February 3, 2024.   The Lord gave Don life in this world on November 4,1940, in Hartford. He was the son of the late Alvin and Hilda (Yoeckel) Zastrow. He graduated from Mayville High School in 1958.   He was joined in marriage to Diana Schouten at Zum Kripplein Christi Lutheran Church, rural Iron Ridge, on June 27, 1964. Their marriage was blessed with three children. They lived in the Mayville area until their retirement in 2006.   Don worked for many years at Mayville Metal Products.    Don was blessed to serve his church, Zum Kripplein Christi rural Iron Ridge, St. Paul’s Brownsville, and Peace Hartford in various capacities of volunteering and leadership. Throughout their marriage, Don and Diana served the church at large, working on projects with “Builders for Christ”, volunteering at Northside Lutheran Ministries, Grace Oasis, and Institutional Ministries. Don also enjoyed volunteering over 25 years at the Experimental Aircraft Association Annual Fly In. Besides his church, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and godchildren were very important. He and Diana followed many of their children and grandchildren’s school activities. Don and Diana were blessed to see God’s creation during their many travels throughout the United States and several European countries.   Don is survived by his wife, Diana; children, Darren (Carol), Darla (Charles) Garbedian, and David (Rebecca); six grandchildren, Joan (Dan) Zimmer, Jessica, Jennifer, Benjamin, Allison, Evan; two great-grandchildren, Alexa and Joseph; and sister-in-law, Deloris Zastrow; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.   Preceded in death by parents, Alvin and Hilda Zastrow; parents-in-law, John and Norma Schouten; brother, Merlin Zastrow; and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Metz and Joan Schouten.    A funeral service for Don will take place on Friday, Feb. 9, at 5 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church (1025 Peace Lutheran Church, Hartford, WI 53027) in Hartford with the Rev. Aaron Steinbrenner officiating. Visitation will take place on Friday, Feb. 9, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the church.    Dr. Robert “Bob” R. Baker, DVM, 71, of Oakfield, passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at his home.   He was born on March 3, 1952 to the late Roman and Coyla (Mead) Baker in New Richmond, WI. He grew up on the family farm near Beloit.   Bob graduated as valedictorian from Brodhead High School in 1970. He continued his education for two years at the University of Wisconsin-Rock County, followed by one year at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Then four years at Iowa State University where he received his doctorate in Veterinarian Medicine. Bob was hired in July of 1977 at the Brownsville Veterinary Clinic.   He was an active member of the Oakfield FFA Alumni. Bob had a love for animals and helped many with their Fond du Lac County Fair animal projects. Bob enjoyed working and helping all of his clients he met over the years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an avid baseball player. Bob loved to cook and bake. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and will be missed dearly.   Those Bob leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 43 years, Julie Baker; four daughters, Shelly (Greg) Kottke, Melissa “Missy” Baker, Mickey (Nate) Oechsner, and Bobbie (Cory) Immel; five grandchildren, Megan Kottke, Marissa Kottke, Miranda Kottke, Natalie Oechsner, and Evan Immel; a brother, Stephen J. Baker; sister, Mary K.    Don­ald C. “Don” Maxwell, Jr., 74, of Theresa, passed away on Jan­u­ary 21, 2024, at St. Agnes Hos­pi­tal in Fond du Lac.   Don was born on June 5, 1949, in Mil­wau­kee, the son of the late Don­ald Sr. and Sylvia (nee Kowal­ski) Maxwell.   Don was united in mar­riage on Jan­u­ary 31, 1970, to Jacque­line McMa­hon at Im­mac­u­late Heart of Mary Catholic Church in West Allis.    Don loved every part of the out­doors. Most of his life was spent out­doors hunt­ing, fish­ing, land­scap­ing and watch­ing so many things in their nat­ural habi­tat. He took his love of wildlife and made some won­der­ful art­work from all his ex­pe­ri­ences and re­spect for na­ture. He hunted with his dad and son and talked about hunt­ing with his grand­chil­dren. He taught his kids and grand­chil­dren how to fish and shoot guns. He was a never-end­ing re­source of knowl­edge and ex­pe­ri­ence that every­one loved to hear about. His beau­ti­ful yard was al­ways evolv­ing with art­work and a place of peace and seren­ity for he and his fam­ily to enjoy.    Those Don leaves be­hind to cher­ish his mem­ory in­clude his wife, Jackie; two chil­dren, Craig (Kandice) Maxwell and Jen­nifer Gilroy; five grand­chil­dren, Jor­dyn and Lexi Maxwell and Joshua, Nicholas, and Ash­ley Gilroy; three sis­ters, Linda (Ed) Drezek, June (Leo) Re­barchik, and Jan­ice (Jim) Les­per­ance; his broth­ers and sis­ters-in-law, Pa­tri­cia (Dar­ryl) Pokela, Kath­leen (Richard) Kuch­ler, and Colleen (Dave) Rappa; other rel­a­tives and friends.   In ad­di­tion to his par­ents, Don was pre­ceded in death by his mother and fa­ther-in-law, John and Eu­ge­nia McMa­hon.   A Cel­e­bra­tion of Life will be held at The Golf Club at Camelot from noon – 5 p.m., April 6th.

   Leonard “Lenny” Zim­mel, 68, of Hart­ford, passed away peace­fully on Fri­day, Jan. 26, 2024, at the Kathy Hos­pice in West Bend. Lenny was born on April 24, 1955, to his par­ents Lester and Ar­lene (nee Chris­t­ian) Zim­mel in Beaver Dam.    Lenny grad­u­ated from Mayville high school in 1973.   He mar­ried his wife of 35 years Debi Karn on Oc­to­ber 15, 1988, at Im­manuel (River Church) in Mayville.Lenny worked with his fa­ther Lester for sev­eral years as a car­pen­ter. He later went on to be­come a cheese­maker, work­ing for Wid­mer’s Cheese in Theresa for 36 years.   In Lenny’s younger years, he en­joyed polka music and danc­ing. He was an avid bowler and spent sev­eral years trav­el­ing to state bowl­ing tour­na­ments, and even shot two per­fect 300 games in his life­time. Lenny also loved sports, and cheer­ing on all the Wis­con­sin sports teams, es­pe­cially the Green Bay Pack­ers.    Lenny is sur­vived by his wife, Debi Zim­mel; daugh­ter, Jenna Zim­mel; cher­ished puppy, Rella; sib­lings, Larry (Debra), LouAnn, and Lloyd (Wendy) Zim­mel; mother-in-law, Ca­r­ole Karn; and sis­ter-in-law, Cindy Karn. He is fur­ther sur­vived by many loved nieces, nephews, fam­ily and friends.    He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Lester and Ar­lene Zim­mel; fa­ther-in-law, Lovey Karn; brother-in-law, Dave Karn; and beloved dog, Harley.   Fu­neral Ser­vices will be held on Sat­ur­day, Feb. 10, at Peace Lutheran Church (1025 Peace Lutheran Dr., Hart­ford, WI 53027).    Dennis A. Laufenberg, 77, of Iron Ridge was taken too soon from our world to be with his Heavenly Father on January 26, 2024.   Dennis was born on January 15, 1947, to Roman and Margaret (Link) Laufenberg in Beaver Dam. He was a 1965 graduate of Mayville High School.   He was united in marriage to Gail Gorman on June 24, 1967, in Milwaukee. Dennis grew up in Iron Ridge and was a dairy farmer until his retirement in 2005.   He was the secretary and treasurer of the Iron Ridge Trap Shooting Club and was also involved in the Horicon Snowmobile Club. In his spare time, Dennis loved to do woodworking projects and enjoyed making furniture for his family.   Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Gail Laufenberg of the home; children, Douglas (Melissa) Laufenberg of Davenport, IA, Ann Laufenberg of Garden City, ID, and Neal (Courtney) Laufenberg of Ham Lake, MN; grandchildren, Jordan (special friend Brandon), Jacob, Nora, and Lucy; siblings, Maynard Laufenberg, Eugene (Frances) Laufenberg, Monica (Dave) Sennhenn; brother and sisters-in-law, Charlotte Laufenberg, Diane (Kimball) Norman, and Donna Gorman; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.   He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leonard and Gaylord; sister-in-law, Delores; and brother-in-law, Dennis Gorman.   The family would like to thank the team at Randolph Health Services in Randolph for their outstanding care and support of Dennis and our family during his time with them.   A private family inurnment will take place at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Milwaukee at a later date.   The family suggests any desired memorial contributions be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Horicon.    Carol Ann M. Sch­a­bel, 79, passed away peace­fully sur­rounded by her lov­ing fam­ily on Thurs­day, Jan. 25, 2024, at Hos­pice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac.   Carol was born on De­cem­ber 19, 1944, to Leo J. and Lu­cille G. (Wild) Schrauf­nagel Sr. at her home in LeRoy. She was a grad­u­ate of Mayville High School.   Carol was united in mar­riage to Richard Sch­a­bel on April 24, 1965, at St. An­drew’s Catholic Church in LeRoy.    Carol was a very ac­tive and faith­ful mem­ber at St. An­drew’s Catholic Church. Carol was a Jill of all trades. She was al­ways there for her church, fam­ily, and friends. If some­thing needed to be done, she was al­ways there to help. Carol loved to help oth­ers clean and or­ga­nize their homes. Carol and Richard were world trav­el­ers. To­gether they vis­ited all 50 states, Canada, and Mex­ico. Carol en­joyed bak­ing, can­ning, and walk­ing. Carol was a Jill of all trades. She was al­ways there for her church, fam­ily, and friends.    Carol is sur­vived by her lov­ing hus­band, Richard; sib­lings: Nor­man (Sharon) Schrauf­nagel of West Palm Beach, FL, Leo B.    Randal Paul Haass, 62, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was a beloved fiancé, father, grandfather, and friend. He saw the good in everyone and wanted fellow colleagues to get the best out of themselves. Randy left behind a legacy of warmth, humor, kindness and love.   Randy was born the son of Roland and Harriet (Schuster) Haass on January 13, 1961.   On January 28, 1984, he was united in marriage with Jane (Anderson) Haass for 31 years. They were blessed with three children, Amy, Andrew and Matthew.   Randy completed the Farm and Industry Short Course in Madison right out of high school to assist his parents in farming and then finished his four-year degree in Business from Marian University in 1997. For many years, Randy was an avid farmer on his family farm in Merton. In 1991, the family bought a farm in Brownsville, where he continued to farm for many years alongside his family.   In 1984, Randy began his journey with L.T. Hampel Corporation and was the fourth longest tenured team member on staff. Throughout his history, Randy did just about everything at Hampel. From running machines on the factory floor, to leading sales, operations, scheduling, supplier relations, purchasing and quality – there is little that Randy didn’t do at Hampel.   Known as Randal P to most, his love of sports was present to everyone. He was a supportive follower of his kid’s passion of sports and for 20 years, he spent countless hours officiating football, basketball and baseball games. Every fall, the twinkle in his eye sparkled in anticipation of “Friday Night Lights”. As a longtime season ticket holder to his beloved Green Bay Packers, Randy thoroughly enjoyed sharing his tickets with his family and friends.   Always together, Randy and Karen would attend sports games of all kinds, enjoy their new boat, take long walks with their dogs Chance and Barry, travel to new destinations, and visit family and friends. Most recently, Randy and Karen were focused together on building their new home. Randy was eager to see its completion and just a few weeks ago accomplished that task. Of all the activities, the most important was their time spent with family; especially with their grandchildren. They were faithful members of Southern Lakes Church and dedicated participants in their Bible study groups.   Randy will be deeply missed by his fiancé, Karen (Snider-Brellenthin) of Elkhorn; sister, Robin (Ise) of Mayville; children, Amy (Shawn) Uecker of West Bend, Andrew (Stacy) Haass of Slinger, Matthew (Carrie) Haass of Appleton, Justin (Kassie) Brellenthin of Bay View, Dylan (Megan) Brellenthin of Lafayette, CO; and grandchildren, Greyson, Layla, Alaina, Palmer, Huntley, Nolan, Emalyn, Mayson, and Birdie. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.   He was preceded in death by his parents.   A celebration of Randy’s life will take place on Saturday, Jan. 27, at The Meating Place (Mayville Golf Club) starting at 4 p.m.   The family would like to thank the entire staff at Froedtert Center for Advanced Care for their exceptional care for Randy the past six weeks.   Monetary donations and memorials in Randy’s honor can be made directly to Lakeland Animal Shelter (Elkhorn), Southern Lakes Church (Elkhorn), or directly to the family.

   Ivan C. Elm, 79, of Mayville, passed away un­ex­pect­edly on Thurs­day, Jan. 11, 2024.   Ivan was born to Mitchell Jr and Bertha (McGee) Elm on June 4, 1944, in Gre­sham/ Red­springs.   He grad­u­ated from Pu­laski High School in 1962.   Ivan was united in mar­riage to Therese Resh­eske on Sep­tem­ber 29, 1973, at Holy An­gels Parish in West Bend. They resided in Kenosha for 28 years and later moved to Mayville.   Ivan proudly served his coun­try in the United States Army from 1966 to 1972. He was a faith­ful mem­ber of St. Mary’s Parish in Mayville. Ivan re­tired in April of 2008 after 35 years with Chrysler Mo­tors LLC., (Amer­i­can Mo­tors). Other po­si­tions Ivan held in his ca­reer were se­cu­rity guard, grounds keeper, and semi-truck dri­ver. He also held a po­si­tion with Johns Manville Com­pany. He was a mem­ber of the Mayville Amer­i­can Le­gion Post #69, as well as UAW-Re­tiree Local 72. Ivan was an en­rolled mem­ber of the Oneida Tribe of Wis­con­sin. He was a faith­ful blood donor until his di­ag­no­sis with a rare kid­ney dis­ease. He had a kid­ney trans­plant in Jan­u­ary of 2016.   Ivan found joy in giv­ing back to oth­ers in his com­mu­nity by vol­un­teer­ing at the Amer­i­can Le­gion, help­ing with church bingo, and ring­ing bells for the Sal­va­tion Army. He also en­joyed work­ing at se­nior meal sites and de­liv­ered meals to oth­ers.    Ivan is sur­vived by his wife, Therese “Tess” Elm; chil­dren, Michele Hughes (Josh Stancer) of Fox Lake, Ro­drick (Lora) Elm of La Crosse, and Carmin Elm (Clay Gilmer) of Wa­ter­town; nine grand­chil­dren; three great-grand­chil­dren; sib­lings, Richard Elm, Ray­mond Elm, Howard Elm, Mary Elm, and Frances Elm (Senia). Ivan was fur­ther sur­vived by nieces, nephews, other rel­a­tives, and friends.   Ivan was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Bertha and Mitchell Jr.; par­ents-in-law, Robert and Helen Resh­eske; sis­ters, Ju­dith Rose, Patsy, and Va­lerie; broth­ers, Lawrence, Mitchell “Ed­ward”, and Jef­fery.    A Memo­r­ial Mass of Chris­t­ian Bur­ial for Ivan will be held on Sat­ur­day, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Edwin Ko­r­nath pre­sid­ing at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mayville.
