John Raymond Salter, 87, of Eden passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and family at home on Thursday, Feb ruary 17, 2022, after a courageous 20-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. Jack was born on October 24, 1934, in Eden. He was united in marriage on November 5, 1955 to Carol Grahl. They were blessed to celebrate 66 years of marriage. After marrying, Jack and Carol began their life journey working the family farm and enjoyed many trips together over the years. He was awarded the Fond du Lac County Natural Beauty Council in 2004. Jack was always very proud of his well-kept manicured farm. Jack hosted the June Dairy Month Breakfast on the farm in 1979. Also, during that time, he was awarded the Conservationist of the Year Award for Fond du Lac County. Jack was a member of the Eden Volunteer Fire Department for 50 years and held the secretary position for a few years. As a husband, father, and grandfather, he was loving, compassionate, fun, generous and above all cared about everyone else before himself.

Dad enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, bowling, golfing, playing cards with friends, was a huge fan of the Brewers and Packers, and especially watching all the grandchildren’s sporting events.

Jack will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Carol, and their surviving children: Jim Salter (Diane Fletcher), Colleen Dreher (Dave Moser), Patty Salter, Dan (Shelly) Salter, and Michelle (Mike) Kissinger; 13 grandchildren: Kyle Salter, Colin (Sarah) Salter, Cameron Salter (Katie Lindsley), Kate Salter, Chad (Nicole) Dreher, Kristen (Dani) Lytle, Easton (Emily) Dreher, Derek (Diana) Dreher, Ashley (Ryan) Lindsley, Dustin Salter (Heather Hintz), Connor Kissinger, Amber Kissinger, Amy Kissinger, and 16 great-grandchildren. Also, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mary and Melvin Gantner, Bill and Karen Grahl, Gary and Janice Grahl, and Jerry Schill. Plus, many nieces, nephews and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Valeria (Prindiville) Salter; father and mother-in-law, Harold and Ruth Grahl; his brother, Tom; his sister, Sheila Engel and brother-in-law, Allan Engel; and sister, Mary Schill.

We as a family express extreme gratitude and appreciation to Lynn Kohlman, who was devoted in providing in-home care for nearly 3 ½ years. In addition, we thank all the compassionate nurses and aids at Hospice Hope.
