Delmar August Dobberpuhl

 

Delmar August Dobberpuhl of Prescott, AZ, passed away on September 16, 2021, at the age of 78.

He was born August 9, 1943, in Beaver Dam, to Christian A. and Alma L. (Giese) Dobberpuhl.

Most of his childhood was spent growing up on the family farm near Mayville, where he spent countless hours with siblings and cousins enjoying the outdoors playing, working, hiking, and hunting.

He studied physics and mathematics at Carroll College, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in 1965 before continuing on at University of Missouri-Rolla for a Master of Science degree in physics in 1967 and an Optical Specialist degree at the University of Arizona in 1975.

He spent his career as an optical laser physicist/engineer working for the Department of Defense at the Naval Air Warfare Center at China Lake, CA.

While at Carroll College, Delmar met the love of his life, Jane Marie Burgardt, and they were married July 30, 1966, at the Faith United Church of Christ, Milwaukee.

His hobbies included hiking, hunting, and writing about science. Since moving to Prescott, he spent many hours enjoying nature while hiking the local trails.

He is survived by his wife, Jane; his daughter, Brenda (Bill) Bass of Cedar Falls, IA; his son, Brian Dobberpuhl of Glendora, CA; grandchildren, Bekah Bass of Washington D.C. and Tim Bass of Cedar Falls, IA; brother, Dave (Nancy) Dobberpuhl of Fairbanks, AK; sister, Deb (Frank) Koch of Mayville, WI; brother-in-law, Jerry Funk; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Delmar was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Darlene Funk.

No funeral services will be held, but a celebration of his life will occur during the next service at his home church.

In honor of Delmar, donations may be made to WELS Foreign Missions, Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, or the Yavapai Trails Association.

Arrangements are being handled by Sunrise Funeral Home and Crematory.
