Richard L. Bayer, 85, of Juneau, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2020, at the Marshfield Medical Center in Beaver Dam with his son Mark and daughter-in-law Denise by his side.
Richard was born the son of John and Lillian (Klink) Bayer on December 7, 1934, in Hartford.
He served his country in the US Air Force and then married Dorothy Scholler in May of 1965.
Rich lived in New Mexico for 18 years and returned to Wisconsin to retire.
Richie played softball when he was younger. He loved taking long walks and chatting with folks along the way. “Muffy” always had funny stories and jokes to share. He was known as “Thumper” because he loved to tap his foot along to polka music. Richie also liked to play dice and dimes, especially with his family.
He will be greatly missed by his two sons, Mark (Denise) Bayer of Fond du Lac and Donald Bayer of Grand Junction, CO; his significant other, Jeanie McDowell of Juneau and her family; and his sister-in-law, Clara Mae Bayer. Richie is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Dorothy in 2009; son, Dave; brothers and sister, Gilbert, Russell (Shirley), and Doris (Dennis) Hefter.
A memorial gathering is being planned for a later date.
The Bayer family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Marshfield Medical Center-Beaver Dam’s ICU and Patti Kollath for their excellent care of Richie.
