Wilfred "Pat" William Schultz

Posted
Wilfred “Pat” William Schultz passed away peacefully at his home in Monmouth, OR, on January 25, 2025, at the age of 88 years. He was surrounded by family.
Pat was born on January 25, 1937, in Mayville, to Arnold and Ida Schultz.
He was a 1956 graduate of Mayville High School.
After a summer in Alaska, he joined the Air Force as a jet engine mechanic stationed at Mt. Home, ID. He was honorably discharged in 1961. Thereafter he returned to Alaska where he met his wife of 62 years and began his career with the Federal Aviation Administration as an Engineering Technician. His work took him to Anchorage, Northway, Homer and Bethel, Alaska with shorter assignments in Arizona and Washington State, before retiring in 1994 and moving to Oregon.
Pat was passionate about aviation and had both his private pilot’s license and helicopter license. He spent many hours flying in the bush of Alaska hunting and fishing.
In his later years, he traded wings for wheels and could be found in his latest RV traveling around the country seeking a new adventure and scenery.
He was always fascinated by cars and began working on them along with his brother before he was legally allowed to drive. Rumor has it, officers turned a blind eye as the young Schultz brothers rolled through town behind the wheel of their latest project. Restoring cars was a lifelong passion and he could be found in his shop up until his last months working on his latest project, which, of course, was a Ford.
Pat’s talents were many and he was always willing to help a neighbor or a friend “fix or build anything.”
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Schultz; children, Susan Long and Wayne Schultz (Sary); Granddaughter, Alara Long; sister, Winona Belligan and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Ramona Hagen, Romain “Shorty” Schultz and Virginia Arndt.
