Sewer Updates Underway in Iron Ridge

Posted

A meeting of the Iron Ridge Village Board was held on Monday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m.

In this meeting there was a lengthy discussion regarding the North Main Street project. The board mentioned that things are beginning to be marked off for the project. What they are waiting on now is moving gas lines and the tree company removing the trees that are in the way.

For the remainder of 2026 the focus of the project will be on the first 900 feet of the project, the first block to Park Street.

Most importantly, there will be an official letter from the board sent in the mail to all residents along the road for the project. In this letter, it is imperative that residents give feedback to the board so they can make a decision on whether to use sewer laterals or retaining walls in the project.

The board will make the decision of which to use based on majority rules from the feedback they receive in the letters returned to them. They plan to make this decision at their next meeting.

In relation to the project, resolution 2026-5 which authorizes the issuance and sale of up to $434,650 water system revenue bonds, series 2026 and providing for other details and covenants with respect thereto and approval of related financial assistance agreement was approved. This is a bond for the North Main Street project to help cover the costs that the grant did not cover. It is a loan from the Department of Natural Resources.

Ordinance 5-2026 was approved which raises monthly sewer rates by $10 and the volume fee from $15.20 to $30 per thousand. The board says this comes from the work that is being done with the wastewater treatment plan. That project is approximately $8,000,000.

Ordinance 6-2026, sewer connection fee, was tabled until next month’s meeting. The board feels the need to gain more information on what other towns are paying before coming to a decision.

Other Action Taken

Meeting minutes of the previous board meeting were approved, along with the treasurer’s reports for July.

Action was taken to approve moving forward with a bid of $58,200.36 from Drexel and Impressive Improvements, who would install/replace the windows in the Iron Ridge Community Center. The board mentioned that this project has been needed to be taken care of for a while and the windows need the improvement. This action was approved pending finding a better quote for the actual materials, not the installation.

The village also received two quotes for sewer relining. They approved a quote of $30,980 from Sewer Ninja. The other quote they received was $38,400 to $48,000 from Speedy Clean.

Ordinance 7-2026, scooter ordinance, pertains to e-bikes and e-scooters. They are looking to find a way to make the rules and regulations more clear and actionable. This was also tabled pending more information and ideas.

Monthly bills were approved to be paid and the board approved spending $3,000 for computer updates at the police department.
