Rose Marie "Rie" Zuern Armour
Rie Armour, 98, of Springfield, VA, died on Thursday, June 18, at her home.
Rie was born in West Virginia to Elsmer and Lillie Zuern, and moved to Mayville, as a child, with the rest of her family.
Rie attended St. Mary's Catholic School and graduated from Mayville High School. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1949. Following graduation she taught school in both Ashland and Weyauwega.
Rie traveled to Central America, where she met Rob Armour, a citizen of Scotland, and they were married in New York City in 1957. The couple lived in El Salvador and Honduras, before moving to the United States where they resided in Reston, VA. In later years the couple moved to a retirement complex in Springfield, VA.
Rie was preceded in death by her husband, Rob; parents, Elsmer and Lillie; her sisters, Vivian Dapp and Virginia Hackbarth; and her brothers, Lt. Colonel USMC Robert Zuern and David Zuern.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Mary Hackbarth Harper, Winneconne, Jon Dapp, Encino, CA, Fallis Zuern, Albany, GA, Marge Hackbarth Schiessl, Oshkosh, Joy Dapp Saunders, Palm Springs, CA, Debra Zuern Kornegay, Winterville, NC, and Glenn Zuern, Albany, GA; her cousins, Callie Stewart, Oceanside, CA, Anna Ruth Thornsbury, Weeksbury, KY, Bob Johnson, Weeksbury, KY, Marjorie Gish, Evansville, IN, Lois Mae Osborn, Bogota, South America, Danny Johnson, Paintsville, KY, Linda Houston, KY, Oma Jo Johnson, OH, Tina Kegley, MI; good friends, Pobe Behnke, Mayville, Vi "Punky" Schultz, West Bend, Shelley Khoury, Rixeyville, VA, and other relatives and friends.
Cremation has taken place and interment of ashes will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, at the grave site of her parents at St. Mary's Cemetery in Mayville. For anyone wishing to attend the committal, directions to the burial site are enter Graceland Cemetery at the main entrance on the corner of South John Street and turn right on the first road. Follow the road south until it just begins to curve to the left, toward the river, and the service will be held on the left hand side where the Zuern monument is located.
Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home in Virginia and Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville assisted the family with arrangements.
