Get ready for a high-energy, history-remixing musical event as Mayville High School brings “Six: Teen Edition” to the stage. This electrifying production reimagines the six wives of Henry VIII as pop icons, transforming their historical heartbreak into a powerhouse celebration of girl power and resilience.
Mayville Music Director John Dobbratz describes the show as, “For the style, it's trusting the pop elements and artists that each song tries to emulate (some Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Taylor Swift). Artists like that. For the storytelling, it's using all these poppy lyrics and the modern dialogue to help tell a brief yet detailed side of each story from each of the six women's view point.”
Featuring standout performances from Hannah DeBaker (Catherine of Aragon), Sidney Daley (Anne Boleyn), Grace Lehner (Jane Seymour), Nakera Davis (Anna of Cleves), Serenity Mahoney (Katherine Howard), and Maggie Wolfe (Catherine Parr), the show promises a night of music, empowerment, and unforgettable entertainment.
This marks the first time in 15 years that Mayville High School has staged two different shows in a single school year. Even more impressively, the students have learned all the dances in the show in just six days.
“We had a shorter time frame to get things done… with spring break in between casting the show and also waiting until show choir season had mostly finished.” Dobbratz continued, ”It was awesome to have so many students that were still excited by the opportunity to do a second show, and they came in with so much energy for the auditions and the rehearsals that it has made my job easier.”
