Posted

City of Mayville Mayor Rob Boelk made a mayoral proclamation declaring the next day, Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025 Mayville Cardinal Football Day at the Common Council meeting on Monday, Dec. 8.
The Proclamation read, “Whereas on November 20, 2025, the Mayville Cardinal Football Team completed an extraordinary undefeated season and secured the WIAA Division 5 State Championship with a victory over Northwestern. And whereas, this achievement marks the first state championship title for Mayville since 1994 proudly bringing the honor back home to a community that has long supported and believed in its student athletes. And whereas, Coach Hilber and his dedicated coaching staff have demonstrated exceptional leadership, commitment, and mentorship guiding this talented group of young men to success both on and off the field. And whereas, the Mayville Cardinal Football Team consistently represents the City of Mayville with integrity, sportsmanship, and pride and is often found volunteering within the community taking on tasks that strengthen and support our city. Whereas, the accomplishments of this team reflect not only athletic excellence but also a deep commitment to teamwork, perseverance, and community spirit, values that enrich the City of Mayville and serve as an example for all residents. And whereas, Mayor Rob Boelk and the City of Mayville wish to recognize, honor, and celebrate the hard work, dedication, and positive impact this team has demonstrated throughout the season and beyond. Now, therefore, I, Rob Boelk, Mayor of the City of Mayville, Wisconsin, do hereby proclaim December 9, 2025, as Mayville Cardinal Football Day in the City of Mayville…”
Following the reading, Boelk said, “Scott [Hilber], you have done a great job - undefeated season, which is another incredible feat. I think I probably watched about every game this year and you guys did a fantastic job, every one of you.”
He continued that he also wanted to start a new tradition - having anyone that wins a state title, athletic or academic, ring the bell from the old city hall, dedicated to the city back in 1907 by the Mayville Iron Co.
“...Such a great job you guys did for the City of Mayville, and I’m so proud of you guys, it’s not even funny,” Boelk said.

In addition to the proclamation, Boelk, gifted a key to the city to Scott Hilber. It is only his second time giving a key to the city in his eight years as mayor.
“Why I’m giving it to Scott is because this gentleman here…[I have] nothing but respect for him and his outstanding…ability to create something of yourself and life. Scott did a lot for these kids to get them in community service and help out as much as you have done. We’re so grateful for you to be a part of our community, everything you have done for these kids. So, that is why I’m giving you this key to the city,” explained Boelk.
“I’m happy to be a part of this community, I’ll tell you that much,” said Hilber.
“We appreciate this community as much as the community appreciates us. We thank you and everyone humbly accepts and is honored by this,” added Hilber.
On the topic of recognition, Assistant Fire Chief Jon Borst was recognized for his years of service.
A portion of the resolution reads, “...Assistant Fire Chief Jon Borst began his service with the Mayville Fire Department on July 1, 1984, faithfully serving the City of Mayville for more than four decades; and whereas, throughout his distinguished career, Assistant Chief Borst has exemplified the highest standards of the fire service, providing leadership, guidance, and steadfast commitment to the safety and well-being of the residents of Mayville; and whereas, Assistant Chief Borst has mentored countless firefighters, contributed significantly to departmental operations, training, and emergency response readiness, and has consistently demonstrated integrity, dedication, and professionalism in all aspects of his service; and whereas, Assistant Chief Borst will retire from his position as Assistant Fire Chief effective December 31, 2025, though he will continue to serve the Mayville Fire Department in a different capacity; and whereas, the City of Mayville extends its heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for Assistant Chief Borst’s exemplary service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to protecting the community for more than 41 years.”
