On Saturday, Sept. 19, the Community Pantry located at the Trinity Community Center in Mayville hosted their annual Classic Car and Tractor Show.
This is the Community Pantry’s sixth year hosting this type of event to raise money for the pantry. Not only were visitors able to see some vintage cars and tractors, but they also held a bake sale and a food drive for the pantry.
Trinity Community Center not only hosts the Community Pantry, which has been operating since 2017, but it also hosts various other programs, like 4H, as well as businesses and programs run by church members. Dana Melzer, who is a board member of the food pantry, holds her own art studio at the center. The Community Center is also available to rent out by contacting the church. They even host a weekly farmer’s market on Mondays during the warm seasons, with the last one of the year being Sept. 28.
Also located in the Trinity Community Center is another nonprofit organization, Love and Blessing for the Homeless, which makes and distributes backpacks and move-in kits to homeless people in Madison and Milwaukee. They primarily focus on creating bags with bathroom supplies and essentials.
This group meets at the Center on the third Saturday of every month to do through their donations and create their backpacks. They happened to be there that day working on their winter backpacks, which included hats, gloves, socks, blankets and a bathroom and essentials bag. They also collect plastic bags that they then send to Iowa to be turned into waterproof mats for homeless people to sleep on.
Love & Blessings is always looking for donations and volunteers. You can either show up to their location on the third Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon, or you can message them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/loveblessingsforwi. Donations can also be made at select locations, such as The She Shed in Hartford or New Life Church in West Bend.
Love & Blessings is also going to be one of the featured nonprofits of the Green Bay Packer game on Dec. 20.
Even with the rain and all the other events happening in and around the community, that didn’t stop people from showing up to support the pantry and see some cool cars and tractors.
The food pantry distributes food every 3rd Wednesday of the month from 12:30-3:30 p.m., by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, or to volunteer with the pantry, contact Larry Moldenhauer at moldie42@aol.com or 920-209-7705. Dropping off donations also needs to be by appointment, and they are mainly looking for non-perishable food items that are on date and not in glass containers.
The pantry will also be hosting their annual Cookie/Candy Walk and Basket Raffle on Dec. 5. All goodies for the walk are baked at the Community Center. You can keep up with this and other events by visiting their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/search/top?q=community%20pantry.
