Beaver Dam Fire Department Gets $25,000 Grant to Boost Youth Cadet Program

Posted

The Beaver Dam Fire Department is receiving a $25,000 state grant to replace gear for its cadet program, aiming to attract more young people to the fire service amid a statewide shortage of volunteer firefighters.
The funding will provide updated equipment for cadets, typically local middle and high school students, allowing them to train more safely and prepare for future service. The grant is part of a broader state initiative to help fire departments recruit and retain members.
Staff noted that training younger firefighters is vital to protecting both the public and emergency crews.
The Beaver Dam grant is one of four announced in the latest round of funding, with other awards going to Richfield, Osceola, and Ripon. The state program offers up to $25,000 to help departments and schools launch or expand youth firefighter programs.
