He was born on September 14, 1941, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, West Bend, son of Bobblin and Ruby (Lepien) Schuppel. Gary grew up and worked alongside his parents on the family farm located in the Slinger area. He later worked as a fork lift operator for over 30 years at Metalcraft
