Thomas E. ‘Jess’ Helmbrecht


Thomas E. “Jess” Helmbrecht, 67, of Beaver Dam gently slipped away to a new life on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021, from St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison after 12 days of hospitalization. Thomas was born the son of Dr. David and Lois (Grabow) Helmbrecht on September 8, 1953, in Beaver Dam. He was a 1972 graduate of Mayville High School, where he enjoyed competing in cross county, wrestling, track and being one of the “fellas”.Tom was employed by Mayville Die & Tool for over 30 years, retiring in 2012.Tom loved his dogs and always had a collie by his side. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, presently owning three Harleys and taking road trips all over the country, especially to Sturgis. He also enjoyed boating and life on Beaver Dam Lake.Tom is survived by his two faithful companions, Augie & Bowser; his siblings, Glen (Deb) Helmbrecht of Mayville, Christine (Mike) McDonald of Casa Grande, AZ, and Mark Helmbrecht of Lomira; his nephews, Eric Surita, Brett (Tracy) Helmbrecht and Joe (Janine) Schanen; and nieces, Renee Surita, Laurie (Derek) Rivera, Shelby (special friend Michael) Helmbrecht and Anne (special friend Ryan) Helmbrecht. He is also survived by aunts and uncles, many cousins, great-nephews and nieces, many good old friends and kindly neighbors.He was preceded in death by his parents.A visitation will be held at the Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville on Friday, Sept. 17, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. A memorial service is planned to begin at 5:30 p.m. with Fr. Tom Biersack, officiating.A thank you to all the professional staff at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital - Madison for your expert, kind and compassionate care of Tom. Special thanks to the Matt White Family for your immediate and transitional care of Augie and Bowser. Vincent Louis Longo, Jr.


Vincent Louis Longo, Jr., 71, of Mayville, passed away on Septem E ber 6, 2021, with his wife and family at his bedside.He was born in Fond du Lac, on October 20, 1949, to Vincent and Mary (Emanuele) Longo. He graduated from Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac in 1967. He married MaryBeth (Reinhardt) on September 19, 1980, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fond du Lac. He belonged to St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville.He was employed as an apprentice at Giddings and Lewis, followed by careers with John Deere, Seats Incorporated, Oshkosh Trucking Company, Champion, Metals USA.Vince was an adamant fan of the Indianapolis Colts, New York Yankees, Boston Celtics and Michigan Wolverines. His favorite past time was playing golf, and the best times of Vince’s life included host E ing get togethers and holidays with family. Vince would tell you not to be sad for him; he would say, “It is what it is and nothing else is as important as family.”Vince is survived by his wife, MaryBeth; children, Vincent (Meghan) Longo of Fitchburg, Christina Longo of Portland, Sal (Tara) Longo of Atlanta; sister, Sister Hertha Longo CSA of Fond du Lac, brother, Joe (Nanette) Longo of Fond du Lac, brother, Mark Longo (Kathy Gregor) of Fond du Lac, sister Maria (Bob) McDermot of Fond du Lac; sister, Catherine (Timothy) Abler of Fond du Lac; grandchildren, Bryson and Addison Longo; many nieces and nephews, along with special family pets were very important in Vincent’s life.Preceding him in death are his daughter, Tanya Longo; parents, Vincent and Mary Longo; two brothers, Jude Longo and Terance Longo; and nephew, Jack Longo.Visitation and services: Due to the pandemic, the family will be having a private celebration of life on a date of their choice. The family asks for you to honor their wishes during this difficult time.The family is extremely grateful for the care, love, and support that the Agnesian Cancer Center in Fond du Lac gave to Vincent during the last three years of his life as well as the UW Carbone Cancer Center.In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make a donation in memory of Vince Longo to the Agnesian Healthcare Foundation in Fond du Lac directed to the Cancer Center.Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville is serving the family. Richard A. Weiglein


Richard A. Weiglein, 86, of Brownsville and formerly of LeRoy passed away on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at Hope Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lomira. Richard was born the son of Arthur and Lucy (Feucht) Weiglein on January 28, 1935, in LeRoy. On July 1, 1961, he was united in marriage with Janet M. Feucht.Richard was employed at Michels Corp for many years.He was a lifelong member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in LeRoy. He was also a member of the Brownsville Lions Club and the Michels Retirees.Rich enjoyed driving his Harley, deer hunting, hobby farming, mowing lawn and spending time with Janet, their children and grandchildren and families.Richard is survived by his children, Robert Weiglein, Gerald (Karin) Weiglein, Ann Wirtz, Michael (Chele) Weiglein, James (Nikki) Weiglein and Anthony (Tracy) Weiglein; his grandchildren and their families, Amanda (Adam) Saegert and Kenzlee, Katie (Chris) Bain and Reagan, Andrew (Katie) Weiglein and Weston, Charlie and Saylor, Kelsey (Kyle) Beine, Riley Weiglein, Wesley Weiglein, Marshal Weiglein, Carter Weiglein, Nathaniel Weiglein, Philip Weiglein, Joseph Weiglein, Braeden Weiglein, Kayla (Cal) Lamore, Joshua Falk, Megan (Dylan) Rusch and Ella, Annalise Wirtz, Leslie Warcup, Bailey Griggs, Jeremiah Weiglein, Addison Weiglein, Benjamin Weiglein; his siblings, Arthur (Sandy) Weiglein, Rita Schmidt, Lucille (Gordon) Becker, Alice Krutke and Joyce Stommel; siblings-in-law, Glen Haddy, Shirley Feucht, Claudia Parsons Stern, Marie (Robert) Wondra, Allen (Janet) Feucht, Daniel (Caroline) Feucht, Gerald (Candy) Feucht, Tess (Ron) Hurley and Chris (Ken) Norskog; other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Janet in 2020; grandson, Cody Weiglein.A visitation for Richard was held on Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in LeRoy. A Mass of Christian Burial began at 2 p.m. with Father Tom Biersack presiding. MITCHELL BRADLEY KELLER SPORTS EDITOR This week’s Game of the Week was not technically a game at all – the cross-country meet named for Mike Hurlbert and held at Mayville Golf Course is an “invitational” – but plenty of gamesmanship takes place throughout the course of a 5,000-meter race, and area runners from Horicon, Lomira and Mayville logged spectacular times at the Friday, Sept. 10, annual invite.Known for its famously steep hill at the start of the race, the Mike Hurlbert Invitational is one coaches and runners, alike, circle at the beginning of each season. That is because the delicately maintained fairways, generally flat surfaces and gradual, rolling hills of golf courses make for excellent 5,000-meter tracks. Often, the best times for any individual runner in any particular season will be at a venue tailor-made for the Scottish game.
