Melvin B. Thelen “The Boss”, 82, of rural Lomira was called home to be with the Lord on February 12, 2020 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac surrounded by his loving family. Melvin was born on February 1, 1938 in the house on the family farm, to Michael and Bernardine (Weyer) Thelen. He was united in marriage to Gerda M. Kormann on February 12, 1966 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lomira. Gerda passed away on May 3, 2012. Melvin worked on and later went on to own the family farm until his son took over in 1988. He continued to help almost every day until his passing. He was happiest when he was operating equipment, whether it was driving milk truck until he was 76 years old or spending thousands of hours behind the wheel of the combine. Melvin finished out the 2019 harvest the week prior to Christmas. His driving career began when he was 16 years old for Adrian Betz Trucking of Byron, followed by driving the family truck for Brownsville Canning Factory. Melvin later owned/operated Melvin Thelen Trucking, hauling milk. He finished his driving career hauling milk for Ron Meyer Trucking. Melvin loved fast cars, motorcycles and working in his shop for friends and neighbors. Melvin was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Lomira, the Lomira FFA Alumni and the Lomira Chamber of Commerce. Those Melvin leaves behind to cherish his memory include his two children, Christopher (Lona) Thelen of Town of Lomira and Marita (David) Eggers of Fond du Lac; three step-grandchildren, Cody (Maris) Schaefer of Brookfield, Cameron (Melanie) Schaefer of Menasha, and Ky Schaefer of Town of Lomira; step-great-grandson, Calvin Schaefer; brother-in-law, Eugene Klink of Lomira; sister-in-law, Mia Kormann of Germany. Melvin was also Opa to Lisa (Eric) Ferdinand (nee Koepsell) of Fond du Lac. He is further survived by special family friend, Kathy (the late Jim) Koepsell of Fond du Lac, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends here and in Germany. Following high school, Frank served his country in the Army Reserves. Frank was united in marriage to Luann Margelofsky on May 16, 1960, in Davenport, IA. He had retired after 35 years from AOSmith Corporation, where he had worked as a tool and die maker. After retirement Frank kept busy with a home repair business while he was living in Arizona and Arkansas. In his spare time, Frank enjoyed hunting for gold in the Superstition Mountains and fishing in Arkansas. Frank is survived by his sons, Frank D. He was a graduate of Elcho High School. On January 30, 1959, Jim was united in marriage with Edith Gall in Germany. He was the owner of Rock River Home Improvement until his retirement in 2008. James was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Horicon. He was a veteran of the US Army and was a member of the Horicon American Legion Post #157. Jim was active in supporting his community; he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #14478 and the Horicon Rotary and he enjoyed manning booths at the Dodge County Fair. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman and also belonged to the Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited, Whitetails Unlimited, and the Swan Road Pheasant Club. He also never passed a casino he didn’t like. Shirley was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. She spent her life taking care of the one’s she loved, her family. Shirley was very creative and enjoyed crafts and gaming trips. She will be fondly remembered for always being there and always being willing to lend a hand. Marion A. Voss, 77, of Mayville passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020 at the Marshfield Medical Center Beaver Dam surrounded by her loving family. Marion was born the daughter of Harry and Agnes (Kranz) Teletzke on June 4, 1942, in Beaver Dam. She was a 1960 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. Marion was united in marriage to Chester Voss on August 14, 1965, at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. Marion worked various jobs during her life which included Big A Auto Parts in Horicon and also at John Deere in Horicon but no job could come close to the one she enjoyed the most, helping take care of her grandchildren. In her spare time, Marion enjoyed crafts, sewing, quilting, and crocheting. She also loved taking care of her flowers, especially her hibiscus, and watching the birds. Alongside her husband Chester, Marion enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to visit 47 states as well as Canada. Snowmobiling was another passion Marion and Chester shared and was a past Sergeant at Arms with the Horicon Marsh Snowmobile Club. She was also an active member of the Mayville Senior Center. Marion is survived by her husband, Chester of Mayville; her children, Sandra Voss of Mayville, Marvin (Jessica Okon) Voss of Horicon, and Dawn (Lee) Bauer of Mayville; her twin brother, Marvin (Diane) Teletzke of Beaver Dam; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Hintz, Jr., Tommy Hintz, and Genesis Miller. Qualmann, 95, of Marshall, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020, at Lake Mills Health Services. Helmuth was born on November 11, 1924, in the Town of Hubbard, the son of Robert and Adela (Pankow) Qualmann. Helmuth, who entered the service in April 1943, was a veteran of the US Army serving as an Army Ranger during WWII and the European Theatre. He was captured on December 18, 1944, in the famous Battle of the Bulge and was a prisoner of war until he was liberated at the end of the war. He was discharged from the Army on October 22, 1945. Helmuth was united in marriage to Elena Walters on September 4, 1948, at Zum Kripplein Christi. Helmuth dairy farmed with his family in the Township of Hubbard from 1950 to 1962. Later, he was then employed as a boiler repairman with the State of Wisconsin for over 21 years working at Truax Air Field in Madison. Helmuth was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church (Browns Corner). He was also a lifetime member of the V.F.W., Ex-POW, and the Disabled American Veterans Association. In his spare time, Helmuth enjoyed the outdoors in which he especially loved hunting, fishing, and trapping. Helmuth is survived by his children, Gene (Susan) Qualmann of Sun Prairie, Kathleen Albrecht of Marshall, Wayne (Crystal) Qualmann of Madison, and daughter-in-law, Toni Qualmann of Waupun; his grandchildren- Amy (Brian Daly) Qualmann, Carrie (Eric) Pettey, Laurence Albrecht, Jeremy Qualmann, Justin Qualmann, Shonda (Dwayne) Nedd and step-grandson, Chris (Missy) Landsness; his great-grandchildren, Carter, Olivia, Isaac, Adeline, Dakota, Kaiya, Seriah, Amiyah, Makiah, Abayo, Eli, Kayden, and step-great-grandchildren, Taylor, Molly, Morgan, and Lacey. Together with her husband John they farmed in the Town of Hubbard and she later retired from the West Bend Company in 1990. Mamie was a member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church Browns Corner. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially her poppy seed torte and apple pies. Mamie loved most spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was born in Hartford, on June 18, 1950, one of three daughters born to Philip and Marjorie (Uber) Martin. JoEllen was a graduate of UW-Oshkosh and earned her master’s degree in education from Carroll University. She was a longtime and well-loved teacher for Waukesha Public Schools and lived by the motto “Quiet rewards as a passion-driven life long teacher”. JoEllen was a mentor to aspiring young teachers and a member of Education Association of Waukesha, the Waukesha County Retired Educator’s Association where she served on the leadership team and the Waukesha Education Foundation. She was a community leader, a role model to many and loved her neighborhood stitchery group. JoEllen was an active member of First Congregational UCC in Waukesha where she built many friendships. She was an avid reader and a member of many book clubs. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren who were her pride and joy. She will be forever missed by her beloved daughters, Erin (Tom) Saeger of Round Rock, TX and Megan (Henry) Kazmirski of Baldwinsville, NY; her cherished grandchildren, Jack, Collin and Tristan Saeger and Addison and Ian Kazmirski. She was the dear sister of Mary Lynne Schultz of Cedarburg and Jane Martin of Waukesha and devoted aunt of Scott (Kathy) Schultz, Todd (Debbie) Schultz and Chad (Julie) Schultz. Lila was born the daughter of Emil and Flossie (Daubert) Baerwald on November 7, 1929, in Horicon. She was a graduate of Horicon High School and then was a bookkeeper for Dr. Fred Karsten. On November 21, 1959, Lila was united in marriage with the love of her life Robert “Buck” Bachhuber at St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church in Horicon. Lila was a faithful member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Mayville, where she served on the Altar Guild, was a Sunday school teacher and was in the choir. She enjoyed softball, golf, bowling and trap shooting. Lila liked to travel and spend time in Northern Wisconsin. She is survived by her two sons, Scott Bachhuber and Mark Bachhuber, both of Mayville; her brother, Emil (Ione) Baerwald of Mayville, her sisters-in-law, Lorraine Baerwald of Horicon and Shirley Baerwald of Mayville.
