Kevin M. Giese (fondly known as “Toad” to many) age 56, of Iron Ridge passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at his home. Kevin was born the son of Rodney and Rita (Liegl) Giese on September 11, 1963 in Beaver Dam. Kevin was a 1982 graduate of Mayville High School. Kevin had worked for Napa Auto Parts in Mayville for many years as a sales manager. Kevin had a love for the outdoors and a passion for all things hunting and fishing. Family was important for Kevin and he treasured his role as an uncle and cherished the time spent with his nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered as ‘Uncle Buck’ who had a world famous fish fry. Kevin sometimes had a tough demeaner but was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was quick to laugh, had a joke or smile for everyone and was loved by many. He will be deeply missed. Kevin is survived by his father, Rodney of Beaver Dam; his siblings, Jeff Liegl of Brownsville, Denice (Gary) Sternat of Lomira, Roxann (Cesare) Mazzolari of Iron Ridge, Tammy (Robert) Haugen of Iron Ridge, and Kim (Andy) Hanke of Mayville; his nieces and nephews, Jeremy (Jessie), Danielle (Matt), Chad, Corissa (J.J.), Tyler, Erica (Dan), Cody, Alia, Brady, Kendra (Dominick), Stacey (James), Brock (fiancé Kasey), and Bryce; his great- nieces and nephews, Mitchell, Matthew, William, Jackson, Adela, Emerson, Preston, Collin, Rory, Dax, Victoria, and Declan with another boy due in December. Joan Hodgson was born to Arthur and Jeanette (Gerlach) Plansky on April 9, 1943, in Beaver Dam. Joan married her sweetheart, Dennis Hodgson, on October 11, 1975 in Juneau. Joan was employed in many fields. Joan worked as a waitress, factory assembler, co-owned a craft store in Horicon, got her real estate license and sold real estate and wallpapered in many people’s homes. Her last and most favorite job was driving school bus for her "kids.” Joan is survived by her husband, Dennis; son, Derek (Cindy) Kreckow and family; Cory, Justin, Jenna and Jenna’s daughter Joslynn; Joan’s granddaughters, Ashley (Shawn) Sinotte and their daughter, Briella, Amber (Travis) Basler and their mother, Janice (Joe) Murphy; sisters and brother, Dorie (Don) Gourlie, Judy Behnke, Elaine Schabel, Art (Jeanie) Plansky, Mary (Bob) Bonack, Peggy Streit and brother-in-law, Bob Taglipietra; Joan’s in-laws, Betty (Wayne) Hildebrandt, Dale (Diane) Hodgson and Bonnie Hodgson; nieces, nephews and many, many friends. Phyllis Ruth Poppe, 93, of Watertown, passed away July 27, 2020. She was born June 11, 1927, in Mayville, the daughter of Adolph and Elizabeth (Uhl) Mahnke. She married the love of her life, Richard Poppe on June 26, 1948 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mayville. Phyllis and her husband Richard, a cheesemaker, worked together at their business ‘The Poplar Grove Dairy,” making cheese for the area farmers. She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sugar Island. Phyllis was a devout Christian who read and often wore out her many bibles. She was an energetic and a fun-loving Gramma who taught her grandchildren many wonderful things about life. A fond memory of her, as a child, she loved roller skating through Mayville. Another favorite memory was her roller skating in the kitchen for dinner, eating with her skates on, then cleaning up while still on her roller skates! She is survived by her children, Dawn (Mike) Lake, Lorilyn “Lurp” (Ronnie) Geisthardt, Timberly Poppe (Trina). Also, survived by her grandchildren, Christipher (Jenny), Rachael, Amber (Travis), Ethan, Cheyenne, Katie and Samantha; her great-grandchildren, Skyler, Justin, Derek, Natalee, Harlee, Jack, and Dominik. Caroline Bertha (Bornfleth) Wieselmann, 89, of Lomira, formerly of Muskego, passed away peacefully July 25, 2020, at Hope Senior Living in Lomira. Caroline was born March 27, 1931, in the Town of Vernon, the daughter of Arthur R. and Edna C. (Barton) Bornfleth. Caroline was confirmed in the Christian faith May 20, 1945, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tess Corners. Caroline married Donald Earl Wieselmann on March 8,1952, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Big Bend. They were blessed with three children, Donna, Dennis, and Diane, and raised her sister Dorothy’s four children, Debra, Daniel, David, and Dean, after Dorothy’s passing. Caroline graduated from Columbia School of Nursing in 1952 and was an R.N. for over 50 years until she retired. She looked forward to the annual Columbia Nursing’s Alumni Awards Dinner every year and she received the 2019 Hall of Fame Award from Columbia College of Nursing for her professional and personal excellence in the practice of nursing. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tess Corners until the inception of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Big Bend, where she was an active member of the Ladies Aid. She volunteered as one of the Waukesha County 4H sewing leaders for several years when her children were young. She enjoyed attending the Brickyard 400 and the Indy 500 for several years and continued to watch the races on television each year. Donald and Caroline spent many years traveling the world for both business and pleasure. She will be remembered most for being a loving mother and grandmother and taking care of her family and friends whenever there was a need. Caroline is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Donald Earl Wieselmann; one son, Dennis (Ann) Wieselmann of West Allis; two daughters, Donna Pichotta of Michigan, and Diane (Ronald) Bauch of Theresa; six grandchildren, Nicholas Bland, Mark (Megan) Wieselmann, Elizabeth (Brad) Nennig, Gail (Andrew)Sehloff, Thomas (Jeanna) Wieselmann, and Sharon (Andrew Raudabaugh) Bauch; six great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Dudley Wieselmann; and special friend Marjorie of Marshfield; and further survived by numerous nieces, nephews,other relatives, and friends. Lutheran Church in Horicon Michael Alexander Kasten​, 72, of Horicon passed away on Wednesday,​ July 22, 2020, at Seasons Lutheran Hospice in Wauwatosa. On September 16, 1947, I was born, the second prince, to Carl “Fat” and Alma (Michael) Kasten. I attended Horicon Public School, graduating with the Class of 1965, where I had lots of friends that are still my buddies. After graduation, I joined the U.S. Navy. “Travel around the world,” the Navy told me. “Yes, I would like to do that,” was my reply. So, from Mother’s Day, 1967, until Mother’s Day, 1968, I got to visit Vietnam. After I got out of the Navy, reality set in and I had to go to work. My first place of employment was at John Deere in Horicon and then off to International Harvester in Waukesha. During this time, I met and married my Princess and love of my life, Janet Kruel. On September 16, 1972, we got married. She thought I’d remember our anniversary if we got married on my birthday. After four years of fun and travel, my bride decided we needed a baby and then three years later another baby. Around this time I got a new job with the City of Horicon as a Waste Water Plant operator, where I would retire from. I really enjoyed coaching my son’s baseball teams. I started coaching with my brother-in-law. I coached minor, major, and travel league youth baseball in Horicon. Then, I took on coaching duties for Horicon's American Legion Post 157 and Horicon High School's Jr. Varsity baseball teams. I also loved coaching Horicon Jr. High Football as well. There are so many friendships, young and old, that came out of all my coaching. When I had some “free time,” I enjoyed playing softball, bowling, deer, goose, duck, turkey and grouse hunting with my buddies. I was a member of the Horicon Legion Post 157, St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, and the Swan Road Pheasant Club. I really did enjoy my life and also a cocktail or two to unwind. My grandchildren were the heart of my life. I liked talking silly with them and those were really the best of times. I loved all of them so much! I was so blessed to have so much love in my life from family and friends. I am survived by my hardworking and loving wife of 47 years, Janet; my son who is a teacher, Justin (friend Andrea); my daughter who is a nurse, Jodi (Jason) Neuberger. I am so proud of my two kids! I am also survived by my loving grandchildren, Keytra Neuberger (friend Joey Schweppe), Rayanna Monroe (friend Justice Graf), Kyler Neuberger, Gavyn Kasten, and Khloe Neuberger. All of them are the sunshines of my Life! I am also survived by my brother, the first prince, Frederick Kasten, and my brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Jennie Heideman. Also, many of my nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. I am preceded in death by my mom and dad, Carl and Alma; my princess sisters, Lorraine (Courtney) Rohloff, Lois (Glenn “Red”) Plautz and Carol (Kate) Kasten; my in-laws, Paul and Doris Kruel; and brother-in-law. Mary Jane (Kiefer) Bauer, who recently reached her goal of attaining her 90th birthday, passed away surrounded by her children, on July 21, 2020. Mary Jane was born in Hartford, to Elmer and Cecelia (Stefan) Kiefer on June 9,1930. Mary Jane was a 1951 graduate of St. Agnes School of Nursing in Fond du Lac. While in nursing school, she met her husband, Rudy. They married on September 29, 1951, at St. Killian Catholic Church in Hartford and were married for almost 65 years when Rudy, her devoted husband, passed away on August 21, 2016. Together with her husband, she was owner and operator of Rudmar Farms in LeRoy. Mary Jane was also a Registered Nurse at the Ries-Friedrich Brownsville Clinic for many years. Mary Jane was a longtime member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in LeRoy and was a member of the Christian Mothers’ Society. She loved going on outings with her family and friends, seeing her great-grandkids on the ball field or Facetiming on her iPhone, which she learned how to operate independently just recently.
